COPY WRITER
What is copy?
A copywriter is all about the copy. What is ‘copy’, you say?
A copywriter writes written material and written content, referred to as copy. It is the output of a copywriter.
Do I need a copywriter?
So, you got an A in high school English and your teacher always said you had a flair for writing. You’ve probably written plenty of reports and business–related documents and maybe your grandma still has all the letters you ever wrote her. You might be asking yourself if you really need a copywriter?! The answer is YES!
Here are some of the reasons you need to work with a professional copywriter at Copy That Copywriting:
1. Your time is better spent on what you know best!
Sure, you probably could add ‘writing copy for your new website’ to your schedule but that wouldn’t be a good use of your time. Good copywriting is hard work and it takes time! A Copy That copywriter will produce your content faster and more effectively than you could, while trying to run your business at the same time. Keep your time for you to do the important work in your business and leave the copywriting to us because…that’s what we do in our business.
2. You are too close to your own business
There really is such a thing as knowing too much when it comes to writing about your own business. In your industry, you are the expert and we respect that, but your prospective audience probably aren’t at your level of expertise. A copywriter will write about your business in easy-to-understand language, targeted to your potential customers. Let our copywriters translate your business into tangible benefits that make potential clients say, “That is exactly what I need!”

3. You want to stand out from your competition
The greatest way to stand out on the Internet is to have good copy. Much of the copy out there is badly written or poorly organised. You might have even read some that shocked you with spelling errors and poor grammar. That is not how you inspire trust in your customers! And it is not the way to get the results you are after. A great copywriter will communicate with you from the beginning of your relationship to ensure they write copy to give you the edge over your competition. Great copy will make an impact, be relevant and relatable, as well as build your brand, which of course, will grow your business!
4. You’ve already invested significant cash in website design…
…that’s right. So, the last thing you want to do is flush that money down the proverbial toilet! Pictures of happy people around a boardroom table or serious faces overlooking a worksite might make your website look good but without great copy to explain what it is that you’re about, your website could turn out to be a white elephant – expensive to maintain and practically useless. Powerful copy will turn your good-looking website into a persuasive and effective marketing tool.

COPY THAT COPY WRITING
research. write. edit. repeat.

Whats on the page counts.
If you ask around, those in the industry will tell you that copywriters are a breed unto themselves. There aren’t many others who can turn out high-quality content, day in and day out, on just about any subject you can throw at them. Yet, great copywriters do this without blinking.
What exactly does a copywriter do?
You might think that being a copywriter is all about stringing the right words together. Well then, you are right on target! An excellent copywriter will not only string those words together, they will do it in a way that is memorable and conveys the intended message in the strongest way possible, creating fresh, written content for websites, advertising or marketing. Some copywriters specialise in other creative copy such as jingles, taglines and ghost-written novellas, all the way through to more research-based text, like the content of a website.
Our copywriters at Copy That Copywriting have a wealth of industry experience as well as varied backgrounds in fields including the legal industry and education. They hold post-graduate qualifications and have been trained in copywriting by an industry-leading professional; this is reflected in the strength of the copy produced by our copywriters time and time again.

What makes a good copywriter?
I sat down with our longest serving copywriter and asked her exactly what she thinks make her a master copywriter. She put it down to five key steps:
1. Read…a lot!! To master something, you must immerse yourself in it. If you want to understand the ins and outs of football, you go to all the games, you watch videos about ‘tricky kicks’ and you read about the rules, skills, famous players and anything else you can get your hands on. Mastering the art of writing copy means immersing yourself in what you are writing, absorbing as much information as possible and continually learning to improve your craft.
American author, Lisa See says, ‘Read a thousand books and your words will flow like a river.’ How true that is!
2. Practice writing – even more than you read! Louis L’Amour, 20th Century American novelist advises to ‘Start writing, no matter what. The water does not flow until the faucet is turned on.’ The more we write, the more we improve, it’s as simple as that.
3. Continue seeking professional development opportunities – constantly seek to improve your skills, even if it is a free webinar on google search terms put on by a local web development company, take the time upskill whenever you have the opportunity.

4. Get over your insecurities and WRITE! Don’t expect every first draft to be brilliant! Remember the movie ‘Finding Forrester’ from the noughties? Sir Sean Connery, a washed-up author, becomes an unlikely mentor for a student. His advice to him is spot on…’You write the first draft with your heart…and you re-write with your head. The first key to writing is to write, not to think’.
5. Deliver what the client is expecting – it’s basic but so often, copy misses the mark for the client because the copywriter hasn’t properly considered the client’s expectations. Ensure that you know something about the business you’re writing for and the target audience. It doesn’t take much more time and it saves a whole lot of fussing at the other end when you’re not asked to do rewrites.
Having an exceptional team of copywriters who strive to follow these five steps means that the work of any copywriter at Copy That Copywriting will exceed your expectations.
